To close out the Soul Calibur VI event at this weekend’s South East Asia Major tournament in Singapore, producer Motohiro Okubo debuted a new trailer for the game that shows off a new move for every character on the current Soul Calibur VI roster, including guests Geralt from the Witcher series and 2B from Nier: Automata. Each move will become available with the upcoming Season 2 update, which does not yet have a release date.
These new moves are likely part of Okubo’s and the development team’s efforts to help improve the balance of the game by adding instead of taking away, and these new moves are meant to help characters in situations they might have a hard time dealing with or be new ways to keep their mix-ups threatening. It stands out that Yoshimitsu has what looks like an EX projectile Flash. It won’t be certain until more details on the Season 2 changes are revealed how many of these new moves and properties are a part of revamping the somewhat bloated current system mechanics of Soul Calibur VI.
Excited for #SoulCaliburVI S2 !
2B gets a new Lethal hit from 66B+K, I wonder what the condition is ! She gets a guaranteed combo with 4BB after ! 😵Xianghua gets a new SXS low, but opponents already consistently ducks…
We need a better SXS Mid! @oosaka_twt @achilles_Okubo https://t.co/HkldELzkbk— Kayane @ SEAM2019 (@Kayane) October 13, 2019
Season 2 of Soul Calibur VI will feature a complete season of DLC characters, including guest fighter Haohmaru who crosses over from SNK’s newly rebooted Samurai Shodown series. Season 2 will also bring further balance adjustments to the game’s mechanics that will very likely alter how the Reversal Edge system functions during play.
Before showcasing the trailer, Okubo spoke to the audience at South East Asia Majors about how hard the Soul Calibur team was working on the game’s upcoming content. Bandai Namco originally expected Soul Calibur VI to be a one season game, but the dedicated fan base and competitive interest inspired the team to produce an additional season and hold a special invitational with an impressive prize pool. More information about Soul Calibur VI‘s second season, including more DLC character announcements, is very likely to be announced during the World Invitational on November 2nd in Las Vegas.
Soul Calibur VI and DLC characters 2B, Tira, Amy, and Cassandra are currently available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Active members of the United States military and veterans are eligible to receive a free Steam code for Soul Calibur VI or Tekken 7 from the Games for Grunts organization.
