Sony Unveils First MediEvil Remake Trailer

Sir Daniel Fortesque is back! Last December at Sony’s PlayStation Experience, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Worlwide Studios, Shawn Layden, revealed that the company was planning to bring the 1998 original PlayStation classic MediEvil to PlayStation 4. After months with no news, last week Layden appeared on the PlayStation Blogcast  to give an update on the game. Layden  clarified that the game is a full remake and not a remastered version of the original. Along with this, he went on to announce that Other Ocean Interactive is developing the remake, and that a trailer would release just in time for Halloween.

Today, Layden made a post on the PlayStation Blog unveiling the highly anticipated trailer. “We believe those of you who come to this title anew will find the bones of the story remain strong,” Layden states in the post. “Whether you picked up the original or never heard of the original, we know you’ll love the sword swinging, perilous puzzles and enchanting environments.”

Medievil, itself, is a hack and slash action adventure game that puts players in the shoes of the reanimated skeletal warrior Sir Daniel Fortesque.  Sir Daniel is tasked with protecting the Kingdom of Gallowmere from the evil Lord Zarok when the evil sorcerer “accidentally resurrects him 100 years” after Sir Daniel “met an unfortunate end on the field of battle.”

The trailer highlights the many visual upgrades the remake has with shots of the original game transitioning to the remake. The game will also be able to be displayed in 4K on compatible devices. The game still features the classic world and enemies of the original just “with more detail and personality than ever before.” The trailer ends with stating the game will be released in 2019. To the delight of many, the trailer came just in time for the spookiest time of the year.

Avid believer that video games present the best storytelling opportunities out of any media, and that needs to be conveyed. Former competitive Pokemon player. Attended university to study game development. Wouldn't be who I am today without games.
