Continuing our coverage from yesterday, the twenty-four hours is up, and again we were greeted with a chain of tweets from the Undertale Twitter account. Early this morning, the tweets began in similar caps lock fashion, leading not to a question, but to a playable demo of Toby Fox’s new game, Deltarune. The final tweet links players to a website where they can download the free demo.
THANK YOU FOR WAITING SO LONG. AFTER ALL YOU AND I, WE HAVE BOTH BEEN WAITING SUCH A VERY LONG TIME. SO TO BE HERE FINALLY ON THE VERGE OF CONNECTION IS QUITE EXCITING. I LOOK FORWARD TO CREATING A NEW FUTURE WITH YOU. NOW ! SHOW YOURSELF ! DELTARUNE !
When players follow the link, they are led to a website with a few “final warnings” before being provided with both Windows and Mac OS download links. The warnings read as follows: “There may be moving or flashing imagery. You may have to override security protocols to use the program. For public safety, you are advised to refrain from discussion of the program for 24 hours. You accept everything that will happen from now on.” Upon downloading and running the program, titled “SURVEY_PROGRAM.exe,” players are once again prompted to agree to the license agreement, “You accept everything that will happen from now on.” Ominous.
At the risk of breaking rule number three (and endangering the safety of the public), we will not go into spoilers for the demo/playable survey. To that effect, players are advised not to play Deltaune yet if they have not finished Undertale, as it contains spoilers to the ending of the game. What we can tell you are bits of information gathered by those with a keen eye for detail and a love of everything Undertale. The first point is that Deltarune is an anagram of Undertale. Coincidence? Probably not, but to what significance it is within the two games is yet to be unveiled. Finally, the name of the game itself, Deltarune, references the Delta Rune, a prominent symbol found throughout Undertale.
Since Deltarune is still a very rough draft, there’s not much known about where the game falls in the Undertale timeline, as it could be a direct sequel, a prequel, or simply just existing within the same universe. Fox is mainly looking for feedback on the new project with the release, so keep a close eye on both the Undertale Twitter as well as Toby Fox’s Twitter for more on the new project. A final warning from Fox’s personal Twitter account, if you need to delete Deltarune for any reason, do not use the uninstaller, as it deletes the entire directory where the file is installed.
