Sony’s streaming service, PS Now, has received an insanely large price cut, which quite frankly, might just put it above it’s competitors. From now on, subscriptions will cost just $9.99 a month (formerly $19.99), $24.99 for every few months (formerly $44.99), and $59.99 for one year (formerly $99.99). The new price starts right now, and to sweeten the deal, the company has added four more video game giants to its library, God of War, Grand Theft Auto V, Infamous: Second Son, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
In their blog post, Sony states that there will be more “marquee” games added each month for a limited time, alluding to larger and more recent AAA titles. This includes the aforementioned four titles that are being added today, which will be available until January 2, 2020. However, this is just a sliver of what the PS Now offers in terms of entertainment and sustainability. There are approximately 800 titles within the PS Now library, albeit mostly filled with older ones from the PS2, PS3, and older PS4 era. Still, gaining access to such an influx of titles for only a fraction of what it could cost to buy them all is an extremely enticing offer.
It’s clear that Sony is trying to stay competitive in the current video game market, which appears to be headed in the direction of digital downloads and streaming services. Microsoft’s seen this coming for a while now, with their Xbox Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions offering similar deal. Let’s also not forget that the company is going all in with their cloud based service too, Project xcloud, which could be coming sooner than later.
Either way, this will make some serious waves in the market. If anything, this will bring in more customers for Sony, as there are some titles that have been lost in time and will more than likely never get a remake/remaster like other titles have, leaving this as the only surefire way to enjoy multiple PlayStation titles from across numerous generations on the PlayStation 4 and PC. Not only that, but this could also be a huge indicator for Sony’s future, namely the forthcoming PlayStation 5.
