Sony Says That A UK Shipment Of Uncharted 4 Was Stolen

After yesterday’s report that people were getting copies of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End two weeks early, most people assumed that some retailers didn’t get the memo about Uncharted 4 delay. However in an statement from Sony’s President Shuhei Yoshida, it made clear that wasn’t entirely the case.

Yoshida took to the PlayStation Blog, to say that a shipment of Uncharted 4 copies in the UK was stolen, and that the cops have gotten involved.

We have some unfortunate news to report that a number of copies of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End were stolen while in transit. While we are continuing to work with the police to resolve the matter – which is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation – it appears that a few copies of the game have surfaced in the UK.

He also urged fans to be on the look out spoilers posted by those who have stolen copies of the game.

We know that very many of you have been looking forward with great anticipation and excitement to the latest masterpiece from Naughty Dog…As with most Naughty Dog games, the unfolding story is such an integral part of the experience and for this reason we wanted to warn you to beware of the potential for spoilers to be posted by people with access to stolen copies of the game.

As for how many copies were stolen, Eurogamer contacted one of the sellers on eBay who said that HM Revenue & Customs seized 10,000 copies of the game over unpaid VAT (kind of like European sales tax).

It’s entirely possible that some retailers sold a few copies of the game early, but if you see the game for sale online, it could be stolen. The moral of the story: seriously watch out for spoilers.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End comes out on May 10th for PS4.
