Sony Reveals That Astro Bot Sales Have Reached 1.5 Million in Two Months

Developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Astro Bot was released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on September 6 2024. November 5 marks two months since that release date and on November 3 Sony indicated in a financial report that Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies in a period spanning two months. According to Insider Gaming these reports were produced as part of Sony’s Q2 earning financials.

Astro Bot has released to an exceedingly positive reception. Scoring an aggregate critic score of 95 and a 100 player score on OpenCritic.

Astro Bot has sold well though it has not outsold other titles in the Q2 report, such as with Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, which surpassed 13 million copies sold since its release on PC in May. Gematsu highlighted that Astro Bot does comprise of 37% of first party titles purchased by players who had not purchased a first party title in the past two years. This may indicate that there is a new demographic of players purchasing the game or that Astro Bot is simply a popular pick among those who prefer third party titles.

The popularity of the Astro Bot and desire for quality platformers on PlayStation 5 is evident. According to IGN Astro Bot had surpassed other family friendly platformers in Europe in their sales, Including Sonic Frontiers by 34% and Crash Bandicoot 4 by 52%. Astro Bot is not only popular as a platformer, it stands on its own merits as an exciting Sony property.

Support for the game is still present from Team Asobi in the form of weekly released speedrun levels, such as with the upcoming Rising Heat stage and various DLC characters from different Sony properties Hardcore Gamer reports. With the holidays coming up and the recently released PlayStation 5 Pro, it may not be unlikely to see Astro Bot receive additional sales from fans and newcomers alike.
