Japan’s equivalent to E3, the Tokyo Game Show (TGS), is almost here, and with it comes a plethora of reveals and updates for current, and sometimes new IPs. Despite not attending E3 this year, Sony will be there, and it looks like they’re preparing to show us a lot of the trailers, and I do mean a lot. The company isn’t holding back this time as they have just unveiled their lineup and stage events for TGS.
The official Japanese PlayStation account tweeted about the event stating, “Tokyo Game Show 2019 PlayStation® booth details have been released. A stage event will be held to showcase new trials, theater, and demo play by creators. Pre-trial reservations for # PS4 and #PSVR titles for #PSPlus subscribers start today!”
The list of games is rather lengthy, so we’ll point out a select few that caught our attention. The biggest title/exclusive on the list is easily Ghosts of Tsushima, a game that was originally announced back in 2017. We got a cool gameplay demo at E3 2018, but Sucker Punch has been relatively quite about their pet project ever since. Hopefully they’ll be able to shed some light on what’s been going on, and when the game will eventually release.
Death Stranding is due to launch in just a couple of months, but it looks like we’ll be seeing a little bit more on Hideo Kojima’s ambitious title. Another PlayStation exclusive, it goes without saying that the hype is at an all time high with this one, and that’s exactly how Kojima want’s it to be. Last month he showed off a couple of more in game characters at Gamescom, and of course, it created all sorts of buzz around the gaming community.
Speaking of more PlayStation only games, here’s another title we’ll be seeing at TGS; Nioh 2. A closed Alpha was released in the Spring, but other than this and a couple of trailers, we don’t really have a lot to go on. Perhaps this will be the chance for Team Ninja to unload some information, and we’d absolutely love a release date too.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was finally shown at E3 this year, and it looks to be a promising retelling of the Dragon Ball Z storyline. The main difference between this one and it’s counterparts is that the gameplay will have a greater emphasis on the Role-Playing aspects, as opposed to strictly being a fighting game. We already know it launches early 2020, but this will be a great chance to see more of what they have in store.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be at Sony’s stage as well. Infinity Ward has been riding huge wave of anticipation since the game was announced back in May, boating a return to the “boots on the ground” style FPS that it became famous for. The company also presented the multiplayer last month which removed the specialist system from Black Ops 4 in favor of a more customized experience. With the launch date of October 25 looming around the corner, this is a good as any to get any last remaining pieces of information/gameplay out there.
There’s a lot more titles that Sony will be hosting in their area at TGS, such as Persona 5 Royal, Project Sakura Wars, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Marvel’s Avengers, Guilty Gear, and Cyberpunk 2077 to name a few. The Tokyo Game Show 2019 goes from Wednesday, September 11 through Sunday, September 15. You’ll be able to watch these stage events live on Sony’s Twitch and Youtube respectively.
