It has been over a year since Sony PlayStation has made an appearance at a trade show of any kind. There absent at E3 2019 caused quite a stir, even Xbox boss Phill Spencer shared things felt off without Sonys presence. “I wish Sony was here. E3 is not as good when they’re not here,” Spencer said regarding the absence of Sony and Activision. Sony seemed to shy away from the trade shows and took another route to share info. PlayStation’s Mark Cerny instead delivered the news in an exclusive Wired interview revealing the PlayStation 5. Sony also incorporated what they call “State of Play” events that broadcast news and anticipated trailers at scheduled times. Many wondered if this would become the new norm but recent news suggests otherwise as Sony has revealed they will be holding PlayStation Conference at ChinaJoy in Shanghai, China at the start of next month.
Being that there is a small quantity of info revealed about the conference, not much can be said about what will be present at the event but PlayStation has revealed some teases. Walmart Canada’s Senior Gaming, Tech & Media Editor, Paul Hunter, recently posted the following teaser images released by Sony to his Twitter page giving us confirmation that there will be 7 games shown.
One title in particular, is Lost Soul Aside, a Chinese developed upcoming title for PS4 that looks reminiscent to the Devil May Cry series and has combat that’s quick and flashy like Final Fantasy 15. Not much has been shown for quite a while and many are eager to see what is becoming of the title. One thing is certain is there will be no 1st party titles present at ChinaJoy.
Other great news is Sony will be attending future tradeshows such as Gamescom August 20-24 2019 in Cologne, which is Europe’s leading trade fair for digital games culture, as well as TGS (Tokyo Game Show), an annual video game expo which will be held in Chiba, Japan September 11-15. ChinaJoy is China’s largest digital expo, and Sony’s conference will be live-streamed online. The PlayStation conference kicks off at 5.30pm on Thursday August 1.
