Yesterday, There were reports that subscription stacking for PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now memberships was disabled all of sudden. There were many customers reporting that they were unable to redeem their just purchased subscription code. There were reports that PlayStation Plus was getting revamped. Recently, PlayStation officially announced an all-new PlayStation Plus with three tiers offering certain incentives. Today, following all of the confusion, Sony officially confirmed that subscription stacking for PS Plus and PlayStation Now memberships have been disabled temporarily and that voucher codes will be redeemable after an existing membership expires.
On the official PlayStation Plus FAQ, Sony clarified by saying “As we prepare to launch the new PlayStation Plus membership service, we are doing some work behind the scenes to make the transition as smooth as possible for all existing members. As part of this work, we’ve temporarily disabled stacking memberships for existing customers until after the launch. Rest assured that your voucher code is still valid, and you will be able to redeem your code either when your existing membership expires and deactivates, or after the new PlayStation Plus service launches in your area, whichever happens first.”
The new PlayStation Plus membership service is set to launch in June and offers three membership tiers for players to choose from. PlayStation Plus Essential is how PlayStation Plus operates now. Players will get two monthly downloadable games, exclusive discounts, cloud storage for saved games, and online multiplayer access. PlayStation Plus Extra gets all of the benefits from PS Plus Essential and adds a catalog of up to 400 of the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games. PlayStation Plus Premium gets the benefits from the Essential and Extra tier and adds up to 340 additional games including PS3 games available via cloud streaming and a catalog of beloved classic games available in both streaming and download options from the original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP generations.
Sony also revealed that for existing subscribers, vouchers will be converted to time “equivalent” to the monetary value of their subscription.
