Sony Announces Playstation VR Needs 60 Square Feet to Play

October will mark the month in which Sony plans on releasing it’s first major virtual reality product. Recently, Sony has posted some of the new information in the form of a diagram on their website which reveals the spacial requirements needed to use their new headset.

Surprising to a number of people, Sony has stated that the recommended area for effective usage is 9.8 feet deep and  6.2 feet wide: a robust 60 square foot area needed. Despite the area they recommend, Sony also urges players using the new Playstation VR headset to, “sit while using VR headsets”. In a brochure posted on Imgur it states that players should, “Clear an area larger than the Play Area of all obstacles before using PS VR and remain seated whenever possible. If the application requires you to stand while wearing the VR headset, follow the application instructions carefully, and maintain awareness of your surroundings”.

Along with this diagram, the page also explains that some games will require players to use Playstation motion controllers. The Playstation website also encourages people to go out to shops or trial events before buying their new VR headset, which is currently sold out online.

An interesting function with the headset is that onlookers have the option of watching what the player is seeing on the TV if they themselves do not have a headset on.

The Playstation website, along with other VR headset manufacturers, stress that children under the age of 12 do not use the headsets.
