Sony Announces Playstation Plus Membership Will Increase In Price Starting September 22

Today, Sony sent out an email to all Playstation Plus members with some details about their decision to increase the cost of the yearly and three month membership plans. The membership will see an increase to $59.99 for a yearly membership, and $24.99 for a three month membership.

The first announcement of this decision was made in a Playstation Blog while they announced the August free to play line up for Playstation Plus members. In the statement they said that,

PlayStation Plus strives to enrich your PlayStation experience through a world-class service built for our fans. This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.

Canada will have a price increase to $69.99 CAD for a yearly subscription and $29.99 for three months. They will also see the monthly plan increase to $11.99 CAD, while the US will remain at $9.99. Nothing has been announced about the UK cost as they saw a price increase in 2015.

In the Playstation Plus email, Sony gave step by step instruction on how to cancel your Playstation Plus automatic renewal for those unwilling to pay the extra money after September 22. For Playstation 4 users you will have to, “Sign in to PlayStation®Network then go to [PlayStation®Network] > [Account Information] > [Services List]. After selecting the subscription you want to cancel, select [Cancel Automatic Renewal]”. For Playstation 3, PSP, or Vita the steps are, “Sign in to PlayStation Network then go to [Account Management] > [Transaction Management] > [Services List]. After selecting the subscription you want to cancel, select [Cancel Automatic Renewal]”.
