Now that the PlayStation 5 has been out for a little while, Sony has decided to get some concrete feedback on potential upcoming features. The company has officially announced a system software beta program, where PlayStation 5 players can sign up and register to become beta tester the next big update before it rolls out later this year. Those who are interested in signing up can check it out here. It’s also important to note that you must be at least 18 years of age must live in either U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France.
Keep in mind that you will need to be chosen through the registration by Sony in order to participate in the beta. However, once you’re chosen, you’ll be kept on a specific tester list. This way, when Sony rolls out more features, you’ll be first in line to test them out before they go public. As of this writing, Sony has not announced when the initial wave of invites will be sent out.
Microsoft has offered Xbox players the chance to do this for the past few years now. Dubbed the Xbox Insider Program, this system is very similar to the one that Sony just launched, where you can test out unfinished features for the Xbox One, and now the Xbox Series X|S before they’re updated onto the respective platforms. Sony themselves have also offered this system to PlayStation 4 owners since 2015.
The PlayStation 5’s first major update came earlier this year, which gave players the chance to use an external drive to store PlayStation 5 titles, as well as 120 Hz support for monitors. While this new system is an exciting thing for current PlayStation 5 owners, there are still a lot of people who have been unable to obtain the console in general. The system was, and still, extremely hard to find and will likely stay this way well into 2022. Despite this, the PlayStation 5 was massive success, becoming the fastest-selling console in U.S. history.
