Sony Announces New Look into Final Fantasy XVI at Upcoming State of Play

Sony had announced the upcoming State of Play which will be live-streamed on Twitch and Youtube on April 13th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 11 pm CEST. It will feature 20 minutes of gameplay from Final Fantasy XVI. However, Sony did not mention if there would be talk of other games or future projects. The previous state of play occurred in February, announcing PlayStation’s VR2 games that will be released throughout the year. Some of the games that will be released this year include Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion during February’s announcement.

Final Fantasy XVI announced originally in 2020, is “The first fully-fledged Action RPG in the mainline Final Fantasy series” according to the website. Final Fantasy XVI is set to release as timed exclusive on the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023, as announced at the 2022 Game Awards. The teaser released for the game includes the main character Clive Rosfield. Producer, Naoki Yoshida, gives insight into Clive, stating, ‘The firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria, Clive is a Shield who protects his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix. Joshua bestowed the Blessing of the Phoenix upon him, giving Clive the ability to wield a part of the Eikon’s fire. However, as the story unfolds, he is swept up into a great tragedy.”

However, fans are skeptical about the announcement of Final Fantasy XVI with no statement about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Although there is no information on the game, the PlayStation website states, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the next game in PlayStation’s critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. Developed by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation 5 console in collaboration with PlayStation and Marvel Games.” Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release Fall of 2023. Youtuber, DomtheBomb, comments:
