Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo Release Date For May 2020

While Mario and Sonic both appear in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, for Nintendo Switch, it seems that Sonic will be the only one making an appearance in SEGA’s new mobile version of the game. SEGA announced that the mobile game will be available for download a lot closer to the start of the actual Olympics in Tokyo, coming to Android and iOS on May 7th, 2020.

A few days ago SEGA released the trailer for the game (which can be seen below).  Like the previous games before it, Sonic and the Olympic Games will feature a lot of familiar Olympic events (i.e., table tennis, fencing, track, and field, etc.). Two new events will be added in addition to this game: Karate and Sports Climbing. There will also be plenty of mini-games too, which will keep giving players some variety, and the chance to compete in online leaderboards all over the world.

In addition to the previous Olympic Games, SEGA will also be releasing a game titled Olympic Games: The Official Video Game that will allow players to compete in their favorite events without any mascots being involved. This title specifically will be released on Nintendo Switch, Play Station 4, and Xbox One.

Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020 is currently available for pre-register.

According to Sega, the number of players that pre-register will have access to certain rewards when the game arrives:

100,000 pre-registrations will unlock the “Ocean View” music track from Team Sonic Racing

300,000 pre-registrations will unlock Training Points that can be used to unlock events and special skills

500,000 pre-registrations will unlock the badge featuring Miraitowa, the Tokyo 2020 mascot

If the number of pre-registrations passes 500K, additional rewards will be offered – stay tuned!

The game will be free at first, but will most likely feature in-app purchases for later perks and gameplay.
