Someone Made a PC Remake of Silent Hills’ Terrifying P.T. Demo

Fans of horror games were thrilled when Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills teaser P.T. appeared on the PlayStation Store. To their dismay, it soon disappeared following Kojima’s dramatic departure with Konami, and Silent Hills was scrapped entirely. From then on, the only way to play P.T. was if you already had it downloaded onto your PlayStation. Now, however, gamers with a PC are getting another chance. Recently, reddit-user Qimsar posted news of their P.T. remake—still in its early stages but currently fully playable.

“Before I start this, I’m going to say that I wouldn’t recommend playing v0.9 for the sake of playing it. This is the first time it was released to the public and I’ve only had about 3 people prior to uploading v0.9 actually do any playtesting for it whatsoever,” Qimsar wrote, explaining that players may encounter bugs in the game’s current version. However, this version of P.T. does utilize “almost 100% of the original assets” to create what will hopefully be an “extremely accurate” remake of the original chilling demo.

Work on this project began in the first days of June, so what we’re seeing now was done in roughly a month. Before embarking on a mission to resurrect P.T., Qimsar estimated about 6 hours’ experience with Unreal Engine. “This is my first game,” they wrote. “In total, I’ve spent about 150 hours on this and on the way, I’ve had to force myself to learn how to do a ton of things. Also, I’m 17 so if that adds any to my street cred, then there it is.”

The only potential pitfall is the possibility of Konami getting the game removed over copyright infringement, or taking further legal action. Currently it’s unclear what will happen, as remakes of P.T. have been attempted in the past and none have been removed by Konami (although none have been as complete as this one, either). For the moment, the game remains available to download, and Qimsar has plans to further develop and polish it. You can download the game, and continue to follow its development, on Qimsar’s Gamejolt page.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
