Recently, Activision announced that Sledgehammer Games who developed the popular Call of Duty: WW2 and other Call of Duty titles would be developing the newest Call of Duty game. They noted in their Q1 report that the upcoming Call of Duty game will have some connection to Call of Duty Warzone. While there is not yet a title or a lot of information about the game, the game will be released in the fall later this year.
According to the developers, the newest Call of Duty will be optimized for the latest generation of consoles while keeping in mind the older generation of consoles as well. As of right now, players know that there will be a campaign, multiplayer, and co-op modes for the game. There is also a lot of evidence–Sledgehammer Games developing the new game and Eurogamer confirmed leaks–pointing to another WWII based Call of Duty game with an alternate timeline.
Sledgehammer Games is a California based game company who previously developed Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: WWII. They also have co-developed or assisted with other titles in the franchise.
In Activision’s Q1 earnings press release, they noted the success that the Call of Duty franchise has brought to the company. They noted that “Call of Duty free-to-play Warzone and mobile experiences have transformed the franchise, more than tripling the number of monthly players over the last two years and adding over $1 billion of operating income to Activision.” Subsequently, the Call of Duty franchise success especially regarding free-to-play access for players will act as a “template” for other franchises such as World of Warcraft and Candy Crush.
Both Sledgehammer Games and Activision are excited for the upcoming Call of Duty title. Activision has promised that they will be releasing more information about the game soon.
