SKEF’s Night Grill Shows The Deadly Side Of Food Service Work

Try being a food service worker in SKEF’s Night Grill, a horror food game, where you clock in and experience being a food service worker, in a less optimal ‘Restaurant’ with potentially deadly visitors. The base of operations is a Kiosk, filled with ingredients, a grill, cashiers stand and everything needed to run the place.

There’s a money bar and health bar on the top right and bottom left, to track both during the duration of the game, an “OBJECTIVE” bar with instructions on what to do, and a few out of place items like a computer and rusty barrel.  The inclusion of the computer becomes clear once the first of the trailer instructions come forth: “Question customers.” A regular comes up asking for some food, instead of making the order, the player opens the computer. The computer does a  “Scan” of the person calling up specific details. You can then discuss with the npcs and make value judgments. Why a tiny Night Grill needs this level of secrecy is something we don’t know yet, but it continues as others get tested as well.

The secrecy becomes clear with objective number two “Spot the doppelgangers.” With these monsters involved, it’s very clear why the player is so cautious, especially as a scan of one person comes up empty. There’s even a patty-like creature on the grill with an eye, but thankfully there’s a gun in the inventory, which can dispatch the monster quickly. The doppelgangers also shake in odd ways which helps their identification. There’s a third objective: “Cook burgers.” So despite the environment players still work. The fourth and final objective is “Survive deadly shootouts.” Which oddly enough comes forth after an unsatisfied customer comes back to destroy you, you then fire back and try not to get shot. There are robbers as well who try their luck and punk gangs.
