Sims 4 Patch Adding First-Person Mode

Last month, the first Maxis Monthly livestream showed off some of the features The Sims 4 will be getting in an upcoming patch, including a new at-home job and the ability to modify your lot’s land. This month’s livestream revealed another feature in the patch that allows players to get up and personal with their Sims and view the world from their eyes.

The first-person perspective originally started out as a joke feature created by one of the game’s developers. The feature apparently became so popular that they decided to make it an actual development side project for the game. When the patch rolls out November 13, players will be able to press Shift + Tab to leap into first-person mode and play through the eyes of their Sims. Now you can get really recursive and go into first-person mode to watch your Sim playing computer games!

On the livestream, The Sims global community manager SimGuru Kate and Maxis build engineer Steve Lansing mentioned some of the possible uses for this new perspective. Sims fans who love designing homes and other lots can use this feature to give first-person home tours. Those who enjoy telling stories with their Sims can use this new angle for their storytelling purposes. The first-person perspective also gives some interesting possibilities for those who like making and playing through self-imposed challenges and limitations. It’s also a nice tool for players who just want to get a closer look at the world of The Sims 4.

Of course, there are also those evil Sims players (read: everyone) who’ll make use of the first-person perspective to get a closer look at the Sims they torture.

The patch, which includes the features revealed in last month’s Maxis Monthly livestream, will be released November 13. In addition, the newest expansion pack, Get Famous, will (re)introduce the Fame mechanic and be available for purchase November 16.
