As October continues and more horror games of varying styles are released, it becomes clearer that the genre is incredibly versatile in how it can be used and combined with other game elements. One upcoming game that exemplifies this versatility is Silly Polly Beast, an indie game developed by Andrei Chernyshov and published by Top Hat Studios. The release date trailer has revealed that the game will be releasing for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on October 28th.

Silly Polly Beast sees gamers play as Polly herself, a skateboarder with an unlucky streak in a story-driven game. After managing to flee from an orphanage, her bad luck strikes as she must make her way through the underworld. The game takes place in a haunting city overcome by deadly red fog. As Polly fights and deals with those who live in the underworld, her own willpower and morality will be tested. Her quest to face and study the beast will lead her throughout a host of horrific encounters Silly Polly Beast has to offer. Ominously, the game offers the choice between embracing or being consumed by inner demons.

In addition to being a horror game, Silly Polly Beast is a shooter with both top-down and side-scrolling sections. Further variety is added to the game by sections where Polly must use her skateboard to rush through obstacles or platforming sections while dodging hazards. The combat is a steady pattern of attacking enemies while retreating outside of their limited range. This can be done slowly by backing up while firing or quickly through running rolling to dodge more aggressive foes. The trailer offers a few shake-ups from this as well, however, when Polly faces off against a massive corpse capable of firing waves of fire.

Players who enjoy horror in addition to story and gameplay can expect a lot from Silly Polly Beast. The demo is available now with the full game coming October 28th.
