Ship of EYLN Celebrates Western Launch For Medusa and Her Lover On PlayStation VR

Ship of ELYN and Playism recently celebrated the western release of their fantasy adventure game, Medusa and Her Lover, for the PlayStation VR console. Experience a twist on the well-known Greek legend of a young woman with the power to turn anyone to stone with a single glance. The game tells the tragic tale of Medusa and Gaios, her sworn protector and lover. In spite of their forbidden relationship, the two will set out on a journey to discover a cure so that they may finally gaze into each other’s eyes once again.

Throughout the story, Medusa finds that her cursed powers can be used as an advantage when fighting. Players will be able to lock eyes with enemies, effectively turning them to stone; this fate applies to Gaios as well, so be careful where you are looking. Medusa can use her newfound powers on both long and short range enemies. However, using this power too often takes a toll on her body, and she will need to stop until she regains her strength. This can make her vulnerable, as she needs to close her eyes to rest. During these moments, Gaios shines as her loyal knight, ready to attack nearby enemies and protect Medusa. Players will witness the two lovers attempt to overcome fate and desire as they battle through six stages of a perilous and dangerous journey.

Ryota Nishida, a developer at Ship of EYLN, recently posted an introduction to the game on the PlayStation Blog site. Medusa and Her Lover will feature both a single-player and local co-op mode. In the article, Nishida further explains what players can expect.

Medusa and Her Lover can either be played with two people in local co-op or as a single player in VR where each side of the controller takes control of a different character. The setup is rather unique, but can lead to hours of fun as you face the various stages of monsters.

According to the post, when in co-op mode, the roles of Medusa and Gaios are split between two players, one wearing the PSVR headset and the other using the television screen. Multiplayer puts players in the same predicament as the protagonist, meaning they cannot look at one another. The two will need to use communication and teamwork to successfully continue their journey. In single-player mode, a sole player will control both Medusa and Gaios simultaneously. “While wearing the VR Headset, both characters are controlled using a single controller, where the buttons and joystick on the left side controls Medusa, the buttons and joystick on the right controls Gaios.” Alternate between the characters by moving them and shifting to third-person.

Medusa and Her Lover is currently playable for PlayStation VR and available for download on the PlayStation Store.
