Publisher Kadokawa Corporation, Kadokawa Game Linkage, ABC Animation and developer WODAN have announced a delay for their top-down roguelike action horror game SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist. The game has been pushed from its original fall release window to 2025.; the game will be released on PC and Nintendo Switch.
The setting of SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist is a mansion haunted by vengeful spirits known as mononoke. You assume the role of shrine maiden Yono who’s followed the footsteps of her missing brother and fights against the yokai.
Director of SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist Kenichi Iwao share’s his creative approach to the game’s setting, per an interview found on GamesHub “We want players to feel the heat, humidity and the smells that are found in the atmosphere of an old Japanese house, these typically cannot be felt in a computer game of course. But for this reason, we’ve gone for a more pictorial approach to Shinonome’s colours and shades versus the style of today’s trendy pixel games.”
Featured in the game’s mansions are three modes Hirai, Misogi, and ‘Gyou’ an endless dungeon battler. You’ll detect mononoke using sound to lure them into traps; Gematsu shares that defeating the enemies this way will yield items and allow you to save them.
SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist’ is a promising roguelike sequel within the genre. While it’s not made by a major development group, they do house major talent. The game’s director Kenichi Iwao has worked on the Resident Evil series as well as Final Fantasy, character designer Tatsuya Yoshikawa on the Breath of Fire series and Devil May Cry and programmer Hiroshi Ogino has worked on Fate/Grand Order; This all bodes well for SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist, hopefully fans can hold out until a more definitive release date is announced.
