ShatterRush is what many people are calling the spiritual successor to Titanfall, one of the biggest first-person shooters that, unfortunately, has been retired for many years, upsetting many players and fans of the franchise. But worry not, as ShatterRush is an indie-developed game by a two-person dev team at Tetra Studio. The game is taking what made Titanfall amazing and making it its own. On April 24, they released an official trailer for the game, showcasing what the devs call a “pre-pre-pre alpha.” You can play it on Steam now, as the game’s early access is slated for Q3 of 2027, which is a long time from now.
So what makes the game so similar to Titanfall? Well, in the trailer, they show off some high-octane first-person shooter combat with high fluid movement similar to Titanfall. They also showcase the different mechs the players will pilot, blending ground and mecha combat to keep players engaged. But what makes the game its own is the combination of its poppy art style and destructible environments, something that Titanfall didn’t have. Honestly, if you enjoyed Titanfall and wanted the high mobility parkour movement, gun play, and blending it with piloting a giant mech, this game is for you. As mentioned before, you can play the pre-alpha now on Steam.
It’s always sad when popular game series are shelved for long periods of time with no word on when it will return, and that’s unfortunately the case for Titanfall, as Respawn has no plans for the game series and even canceled the third game in the series 10 months into development. But that’s why indie games and indie developers are so important nowadays, and this is the perfect reason as to why. The reason is that most indie games are made by passionate fans of a game series and want to put their own spin on it, and we get big hits like Windrose, an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag-inspired game that is doing amazing right now, breaking all kinds of records. And now we have ShatterRush taking the torch from Respawn and carrying on its legacy in its own way, which is amazing since two people are developing this game, and it looks amazing so far. Unfortunately, the game is a long way away, but you can play the pre-alpha to get a feel for the game and start to build your anticipation for this new indie title.
