Another day, another delay, though they are much more common now in the gaming industry, where getting it right the first time is most important, since that’s when you have the most eyes on your game. It’s still a bummer. And as the days close in on the release date, studios start to feel the pressure. Some recognize that, for a successful launch, they need more time for polish, and that’s what happened to the story-driven turn-based RPG Shadow of the Road, which has now been delayed from its planned November 12th release to March 10th. The reasoning, as mentioned, is that the game needs more polish, and the devs want more time to address lingering issues before launch.
Shadow of the Road is a story-driven, turn-based RPG where feudal Japan meets magic and machine. The game allows you to assemble a team of diverse characters and test your skills against yōkai and steampunk contraptions. The game was originally set to release on November 12th; the developers have officially announced a delay, as they need more time to polish it for launch. “However, as development continues, it has become clear that we need more time to get the game ready. Shadow of the Road is rescheduled to launch on March 10th, 2027, instead of its previously planned November release.” Some of the polish they seek to achieve involves fine-tuning combat balance and refining aspects of encounters.
“This extra time will let us address remaining issues and give the whole experience the polish it deserves. We’ll be making an additional pass to refine the tactical aspect of the encounters and fine-tune combat balance. It is of great importance that the positioning, initiative, and ability choices all play their part in every battle – we want each encounter to reward thoughtful planning and provide you with meaningful decisions to make. We’re also tuning the progression systems to make developing your party more engaging: our goal is to give you more reasons to experiment with different skills and adapt your tactics to the challenges.”
Even though Shadow of the Road has been delayed, it’s nice to see the devs acknowledge they need more time to launch the game in the best possible shape. The game is a story-driven, immersive turn-based RPG with rich characters and worldbuilding, so if you’re looking for a fun RPG, this game is for you. Shadow of the Road will officially launch on March 10th, 2027, on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
