There have been many big and new games announced at E3 lately, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus, and the new God of War. Some announcements, however, have been pushed to the side during all this excitement, such as Sony’s announcement that Shadow of the Colossus will be coming to the PlayStation 4. Some astute readers might be wondering why Sony is doing this, since Shadow of the Colossus already got remastered on the PlayStation 3 in 3D. Well, not only is this game an ultra-high definition remake of the original, but it includes some brand new features.
According to an interview with Famitsu (translated by Siliconera), Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida had this to say about the confusion as to whether the new Shadow of the Colossus is a remaster or a remake:
It is a remake. The game content is the same as the original version, but all the assets are being remade. I figured we could use such tech to make if we’re going to make Shadow of the Colossus in the PS4 era. Bluepoint is the development company behind the PS3 remaster versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. So we know them rather well.
That’s not to say the remake will be lacking any new features, as Yoshida was quick to point out:
It’s the same, but player preferences for controls and such change over time, so we’re working on implementing a more modernized way to play. And of course you can play with a feel of the original version…
For those who missed out on this action-adventure classic when it first came out, be sure to check out Shadow of the Colossus when it launches in 2018 for the PlayStation 4.
