Serious Sam 4 Delayed to September But Will Still Feature “Legion” Hordes

Announced in 2014, the latest addition to the Serious Sam series has received an official, and hopefully final, release date slated for September of this year. With a number of gameplay trailers from earlier this year, Serious Sam 4 is set to be one of the most explosive and over-the-top titles of the series, allowing “thousands” of enemies at once on the screen.  Familiar to the chaotic-hordes of previous Serious Sam games, Serious Sam 4 will feature hordes upon hordes of enemies to slay with variety of weaponry, but the studio’s newest “Legion” feature allows for even more enemies to appear at once than seen prior in the series. The new “Legion” graphic system designed by graphics engineer Dean Sekulić allows for “thousands and thousands, hundreds of thousands” of enemies to spawn and be visible on the player’s screen, with prior graphics tests allowing well beyond 10,000 enemies at once.

Much like its predecessors, Serious Sam 4 will arm players with a huge arsenal of weaponry to destroy the massive hordes of enemies that they will encounter. With new weaponized mech enemies and aliens to fight, Sam will need to use some of the new tools at his disposal, including the new XL2 laser and XPML6 rocket launcher.

According to the official fansite, Serious Sam 4’s plot will be focused on Sam’s work with the Earth Defense Force and takes place prior to the events of the third game. “Taking place during the Mental War and prior to the events of Serious Sam 3: BFE, humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.”

Players will be able to launch into the huge hordes of new alien enemies on September 24th for the PC via Steam, Linux, and Google Stadia. Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have been confirmed but the release dates have been slated for later in 2021.
