Series Creator Teases a New ‘X-Files’ Game in Development

In an informal announcement during an interview with X-Files News, series creator Chris Carter let slip that an X-Files game is apparently in development. Not much else is known currently, as Carter wasn’t pressed with any further questions about the game after mentioning it initially; though, optimistically, more information may become available soon.

“I made a joke the other day about The X-Files, the musical, but in reality, they’re actually making a really interesting narrative video game, different from the one that’s been launched already,” Carter said in his interview. “Different approaches to X-Files story telling. So we’ll see.” It remains to be seen what Carter meant by a ‘different approach to X-Files storytelling,’ as it being a narrative game still doesn’t give us much on an idea what the final product will look like.

There have been a couple of X-Files games made; presumably Carter referred to The X-Files: Deep State, a mobile game that released last month. Beyond that, a full X-Files adventure game was released back in 1998, and that’s about all we’ve got in terms of X-Files in the world of gaming. Here’s hoping this upcoming title brings something new and interesting to the X-Files universe.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
