Sega has announced that on July 26th they are going to be holding an event in Japan to announce the official release date of Ryū ga Gotoku 6 (Like a Dragon 6) aka Yakuza 6. The event will be held in Tokyo at the UDX theater. The event will also include new footage from the upcoming Yakuza 6, the cites that the player will able to explore in Yakuza 6, the voice cast for Yakuza 6, and of course the official Japanese release date for Yakuza 6. The game was announced for a Fall release for PlayStation 4 in Japan but this event will give the game an official release date.
Yakuza 6 was first announced during a Sony press conference in 2015 along with its PlayStation 4 exclusivity and the broad release date of Fall 2016. From what has been revealed by demos of the game, it will be in the style of the other games in the series. The game will feature all the over the top fighting and open world elements that have made so any fans of the Yakuza series. Yakuza 6 will also continue to have Kazuma Kimyu as the main protagonist of the story. This is so fa the only confirmed character making an appearance in Yakuza 6. Back in September of 2015 one of the new cast members for the game revealed to be film legend Beat Takeshi. Beat Takehsi’s inclusion in the Yakuza series was announced via a streamed event by Sega. The brief clip shows the legendary renaissance man animated into the game. This paring makes sense, seeing as how Beat Takeshi has been the protagonist as well as director of many Japanese Gangster films such as Sonatine, Fireworks, Outrage, and Boiling Point to name a few. Beat Takeshi is also a beloved personality and the at times odd mixture of comedy and violence that the Yakuza series is known for seems a perfect fit for the sensibilities of Beat Takeshi. The trailer that revealed Beat Takeshi being included in the game can be seen below.
A North American localization for Yakuza 6 has yet to be announced.
