Sega Sammy Reports Strong First Half as Pachislot Business Drives Profit Growth

SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS has reported stronger-than-expected financial results for the first half of its fiscal year ending March 2027, with substantial increase in operating income driven largely by its Pachislot and Pachinko Machines business. The company’s results for the six months ending September 30, 2026, show consolidated net sales of ¥212.6 billion, up 5.7% year over year, while operating income increased 42.2% to approximately ¥14.3 billion. Sega Sammy said performance exceeded its expectations across all business segments. The Pachislot and Pachinko Machines segment was a major contributor to the improvement. Its six-month sales reached ¥49.1 billion, an increase of 17.1%, while operating income climbed to approximately ¥15.4 billion from ¥3.6 billion during the same period last year. The company attributed the stronger performance partly to demand for Smart Pachislot titles, including Smart Pachislot Lycoris Recoil, which exceeded internal sales expectations.

While the overall results were positive, Sega’s Entertainment Contents segment, which includes its console, PC, and mobile game operations, recorded sales of approximately ¥145.5 billion, down 2.5% year over year. Full-game revenue declined from ¥26.8 billion to ¥20.5 billion, despite unit sales increasing from 9.39 million to 10.6 million. Catalogue sales helped offset the decline, rising to ¥20.2 billion, while revenue from new releases fell sharply to ¥300 million. The figures suggest that Sega’s existing catalogue performed well, but the reporting period lacked the contribution from major new releases seen in the previous year. Sega expects its upcoming releases to help strengthen the second half of the fiscal year. Two titles highlighted in its financial presentation were Stranger Than Heaven and Persona 4 Revival, which have accumulated more than one million and two million wishlist registrations, respectively. These figures indicate considerable interest ahead of release, although wishlists should not be treated as guaranteed sales.

Sega Sammy’s Gaming business, which includes casino-related operations, recorded sales growth but continued to report an operating loss of approximately ¥4.2 billion. The results highlight the importance of Sega Sammy’s broader business portfolio beyond its video game operations. Pachislot and pachinko machines provided a substantial boost to profitability, while the Entertainment Contents segment faces the challenge of translating catalogue engagement and upcoming releases into stronger revenue. With major titles expected in the second half of the fiscal year, Sega will be looking to build on its improved financial performance while delivering on the considerable interest surrounding its upcoming games.
