Sega Plans to Release Both New and Remade Titles Throughout 2022 and 2023

Sega has long been known as the leader in arcade games. Despite this reputation, arcade games have slowly been declining due to the rise of in-home consoles and the impact of Covid-19 on the gaming world. Although the world of arcade gaming has been declining, Sega is planning to release multiple remakes to their hit games by March of 2023.

Sega announced many plans during their annual earning presentations for investors, including plans for multiple more titles between April 2022 and March 2023. In fact, Sega said they are planning to release a total of 13 titles during this fiscal year. This would be an almost 100% increase from the 7 titles the company released during the most recent fiscal year. This number would include both potential remakes of older games and any new titles that Sega chooses to release as well.

Sega has already announced a few games that will be coming during this fiscal year. Sonic Frontiers, Soul Hackers 2, Endless Dungeon, Two Point Campus, and Sonic Origins have all been confirmed by Sega as games that should be released between April 2022 and March 2023.

Both Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio have reportedly been in development and could be released during this timeframe as well. Each of these games was incredibly popular in arcades and Jet Set Radio was even remade for some consoles.

As the Sega community wonders about what could be remade, some fans have ideas based on Sega’s past comments. Altered Beast, Space Channel 5, House of the Dead, Rez, Panzer Dragoon, Soul Hackers, NiGHTS, Shinobi, Virtua Fighter, and Streets of Rage are all titles that have been discussed as potential remakes for consoles. All of these games have the potential to become hits based on their previous popularity among Sega’s community.

Although none of the rebooted games have been officially confirmed, Sega will likely attempt to remake as many as possible to bring in more players. Sega has already collaborated with Roblox to bring Sonic the Hedgehog into the game, and they will likely continue to provide even more content for their community.
