According to Sega in their latest financial report, Persona 5 Royal is huge success in the Western Region. The website Persona Central, which focuses mainly on the Persona franchise, outlined the report in great detail, which was published only in Japanese. Sega was elaborating on the digital sales numbers for games outside of Japan, where Persona 5 Royal was apparently a big seller. In the post it states that “Persona 5 Royal began selling in the U.S. and Europe on March 31st, achieving record sales.”
In the same report, Sega also mentions that physical sales were impacted, while they also anticipate that the overall ratio for digital sales are high and will remain so for quite some time. This is more than likely referring to the worldwide impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic which has caused numerous delays and cancellations all around the world, with one of the biggest ones being E3 2020. Despite Sega’s boasting of the game’s success overseas, they didn’t actually reveal what those sales numbers were. Since their fiscal year ended right when the game released in the U.S. it’s possible that we’ll be made privy to that statistic at a later time.
Still, it doesn’t really surprise us that Persona 5 Royal would do very well in the West. The game, which is an updated version of the 2016 title (2017 in the West), adds plethora of content to an already exhilarating JRPG. Launching in Japan last year, the game would go onto sell more than 400k in less than a month. When it came out in the U.S. in March of 2020, it was the seventh best selling game that month which is a commendable feat considering they were up against the unstoppable juggernaut that is Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Persona 5 Royal is available now for the PlayStation 4. You can check out our review of the game here.
