In the upcoming season of the popular free-to-play battle royale Apex Legends, the game’s director Chad Genier recently announced that Titanfall would have special content in Season 9. Both games are in the Titanfall universe, but they do not have any direct relationship other than sharing some similar gameplay features in Titanfall 2 and having the same developers Respawn Entertainment. For those not familiar with the Titanfall series, the game is an action first-person shooter where players control mechanized characters called Titans. During a BrownGirlGamerCode stream, Apex developers discussed some exciting news for the new season. Grenier stated,
“Next season, Season 9, you’re actually going to see a ton of Titanfall coming back into the game, in one way or another… I’ve told some people before, if you’re a Titanfall fan, hang on for Season 9 because there’s gonna be some really cool stuff there.”
During the stream, Grenier also discussed the team’s process when fine tuning gameplay and designing new seasons and upcoming events. The team may spend months on certain concepts and features for a new season such as new maps or weapon changes. He also mentioned that while he may have some idea or direction, he lets the writing and design team come up with ideas, and when they find one that really sticks, then they collaborate to make the upcoming Apex Legends seasons the best they can be.
Unrelated to the BGGC stream, a recent leak hints to the new character Blisk being able to summon Titans as either a special ability or an ultimate. The Titan is able to spray bullets and can scan the area. Eventually, the Titan stops and self-destructs, so players will have to time their ultimates to be able to summon another Titan. However, these leaks are believed to be tests for the new season, and Respawn Entertainment developers have made it clear that they will not feature any of the mechanized characters in the Apex Legends as well as other Titanfall 2 features such as walking on walls. So, while this leak may have some exciting features, we may not see it in the main gameplay.
While there is still little information regarding the new season, players can expect some awesome content. Apex Legends is available on PS4, Ps5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Season 9 will begin on May 4, 2021.
