Bandai Namco officially confirmed this week that Season 2 of weapons-centric 3D fighter Soul Calibur VI will go live next week as a free update, and laid out all the important details for what’s new for the game’s somewhat controversial system mechanics and overall balance in a new content trailer. The update also includes new moves for each character on the roster to help boost everyone on the battlefield. Season 2’s first DLC character also has received an official release date, with returning fighter Hilde debuting on November 26th. Upcoming guest character Haohmaru from SNK’s Samurai Shodown will follow soon after. There will be a total of four DLC characters for Season 2 of Soul Calibur VI.
The overview trailer for Season 2 breaks down what’s new for Soul Calibur VI. There are a number of major changes coming on November 25th that could go a long way to improving the feel and flow of matches. The first change is the addition of “Soul Attack,” which is a new way to spend meter. Instead of using the character’s Soul Charge which creates some “get off me” space, a Soul Attack is a pressure option that still grants the Soul Charge stage to the character. “Resist Impact” is another new defensive meter option. For half of the Soul Gauge meter, the player can repair their Guard meter and deflect attacks including Break and Unblockable attacks if used with the proper timing.
A big point of contention in Soul Calibur VI is the highly spammable “Reversal Edge” mechanic, which is being majorly adjusted for Season 2. Following the update, the clash state will only happen with successful attacks to improve the pace of combat. Hopefully these new changes make the game more appealing to both novice and veteran players with the advent of this new season.

DLC 7 character Hilde will come with a special character sub-system called “Regalia Arts.” After specific moves connect with Hilde’s opponent, Hilde’s sword and spear will glow to give a visual cue that her Regalia Art attack is available. She also has a modified “Release Input” mechanic from earlier games, where the player can hold down and then release an attack button to “launch a powerful attack.” You can check out Hilde’s reveal trailer from her initial announcement below.
Season 2 also adds a new stage called “Silver Wolves’ Haven” and a training stage called “Grand Labyrinth – Sealed Corridor.” The update also promised a revamped UI, improvements to ranked online play, and a text chat function along with the major balance adjustments.
