Season 10 of Overwatch Competitive Play Has Arrived

Clearing the slate of Season 9’s woes and triumphs, yesterday Blizzard launched Season 10 of Overwatch Competitive Play:

Get ready to sharpen your skills and perfect your strategies—Season 10 of Competitive Play has begun!

Unlocked at level 25, Competitive Play is designed for those players who want to put their skills to the test, and offers a more serious experience than our Quick Play or Arcade Modes.

Before completing their placement matches, players should take note of the following updates and this season’s Competitive Rewards.

Formally announced this past February 28, Overwatch‘s 27th hero Brigitte Lindholm is now available for battle in Competitive Play.

After leaving the Public Test Realm (PTR) servers, Brigitte was only available for use in Quick Play and Arcade matches. Despite players not being able to watch how the pros utilize her in Overwatch Legaue until Stage 4 debuts on May 16, the addition of this shield and ranged flail-bearing Support hero is sure to shake things up in the current Competitive meta. Players can review her unique kit here.

As Blizzard notes in their Season 10 announcement:

In addition to experiencing the thrill of victory, players can also unlock unique rewards through Competitive Play. Anyone who completes their placement matches during a season will receive a special spray and player icon. If you are placed within the Top 500 players on your platform (and in your region) at the end of the season, you’ll receive an extra player icon and animated spray.

This season’s player icon and spray are seemingly based off London’s Big Ben, as seen in the King’s Row map. Of course, all competing players are also rewarded with Competitive Points (a number based on their Skill Rating and performance during the season) to be used for purchasing golden weapons for your favorite heroes.

Two more important news to take note of: 6v6 Elimination Competitive Season 1 and the upcoming Rialto map launch.

Again, per Blizzard:

Started late in Competitive Play Season 9, 6v6 Competitive Elimination Season 1 will continue to be active for a few days during the new season before it ends on May 7 PDT (May 8, 00:00 UTC).

Originally an Arcade mode titled Lockout Elimination, two teams of six choose their heroes to fight in a best-of-3 match. The catch: the winning team is locked out of using the heroes they just used. Like standard Competitive Play, players must complete 10 placement matches to determine their skill ranking.

Finally, May 3 marks the arrival of the new Payload map, Rialto.

It will not be immediately available for Competitive Play as Blizzard would like to give all players time to learn and master the ins and outs of the map.

Season 10 of Overwatch Competitive Play is available now on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
