Sea of Thieves is getting into the spooky spirit just in time for Halloween. The new update, Fate of the Damned is live and includes new rewards, events and more. Developers at Rare usually roll out new lore centered around skeletons during Halloween, but this update includes even more tricks and treats for players. The Fate of the Damned joins the latest updates from Sea of Thieves developer Rare. They’ve been working hard, rolling out updates every month like Vault of the Ancients in September and Ashen Winds back in July.
Sailors will now start the game with “mysterious notes” urging them to speak with Larinna. These notes will notify players of the newest stuff to check out. Larinna will also give players Fate of the Damned voyages. Through these adventures, sailors will learn the truth behind her missing Bilge Rat crew. Additionally, new voyages will be added every week throughout Fate of the Damned event. This also marks the return of the Shadows of Fate and players will have to battle these foes as they explore the high seas. Larinna will update players on which regions the Shadows of Fate are, signaling major hotspots for pirate activity.
And great risk comes with great reward, there’s a slew of new cosmetics to adorn ships and sailors. The more challenges a player completes, the more bounties they’ll unlock. Soulflame weapons and lanterns are up for the taking, and Pirate Legends who complete all challenges will win the Soulflame Crew Set. It’ll be available to the pirate who accomplished all goals and even crewmates will be able to share in the bounty. Last year’s Halloween update brought aboard skeleton monkeys and parrots; now sailors can choose skeleton dogs and cats. The not-so-furry friends are up for adoption in the Pirate Emporium.
The update also adds a few new gameplay features. Players will no longer have to hop on to the Sea of Thieves website to track their challenge progress, there’s now an in-game Sea of Thieves calendar that’ll automatically do that, as well as list upcoming events. The new update is currently live, so get to your ships and start your spooky voyage.
