Coming off its award for Best Action/Adventure Game of 2025 during The Game Awards, Team Cherry looks to be ready to extend Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s success to 2026 with the announcement of the game’s first DLC, Sea of Sorrow. The announcement was made few hours ago in a blog post on their official website, detailing what they have been working on as well as what updates are coming for both of the team’s games.
The blog post starts off by sharing the staggering statistic that over seven million people are playing Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Team Cherry thanking people for playing. They cite the community enthusiasm and content such as art and mods as one of their main motivations for creating the DLC. They then show off the new trailer for the game, revealing several images styled similarly to the rest of the game but new to the DLC. These include a tarp similar to areas Hornet binds new crests and a cage attracting lightning. The trailer ends with new artwork of Hornet standing over the raging sea.
The post goes on to confirm that the DLC will be adding a lot of additional content compared to similar updates from its predecessor, Hollow Knight. The DLC promises to include new tools and bosses into the game, along with entirely new areas to explore. Team Cherry has yet to specify how to reach the DLC, what story it might contain, or what the new areas will be, but players have speculated it may have to do with content previously seen in trailers that did not make it into the final game. The post ends by showing off the upcoming Switch 2 version of Hollow Knight and teasing that there are even more plans for 2026.
For fans of both of Team Cherry’s games, the news of new content and communication are a welcome surprise. Players can look forward to returning to explore Pharloom when the DLC releases for free in 2026.
