Well it finally happened. After being rumored for years and years, there’s finally news about a new Elder Scrolls game in the works and it’s more substantial than a 30 second teaser trailer showing nothing over half a decade ago. We have an alleged leak for a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (via Reddit).
Of course as I said, this leak is alleged so take it with a grain of salt, same as any leak especially via sites like Reddit here anyone can post anything. But this leak has the benefit of showing some pretty credible screenshots of the remaster as well as the image files from virtuosogames.com, said virtuosogames.com is now 403’d and under complete lockdown, which doesn’t confirm that this is an actual leak but boy does it lead credence to the idea.
This news has basically caught the gaming world by surprise. It’s been about 15 years since the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, so any Elder Scrolls fan has already jumped at the news of this leak, and it has completely taken off on social media.
Now, with the use of generative AI even screenshots must be put under scrutiny but the evidence is pretty overwhelming. In the tweet above as well as the Reddit post you can see the remaster side-by-side to the original thing. If these leaks are real then it looks like Oblivion will be taking a major graphical overhaul, though not everyone is happy with this proposed direction. The original Oblivion was very colorful, almost cartoonishly so, this alleged remake seems to have all the colors washed out a bit which has drawn some scrutiny.
Every remake brings these debates, but the main story here is that it exists. Again, there’s still a chance these leaks are nothing but, I mean, how often do faked leaks bother with images for the physical edition box art and DLC?
