Runers Summoned to Steam in September

Fans of magic-infused videogames will be able to collect and combine runes to cast 285 spells in the upcoming top-down dungeon crawler shooter, Runers. The game is published by independent publisher Mastertronic, and developed by likewise indie studio Let’s Get Kraken. This is the latter’s debut title.

Runers will be released Sept. 2 of this year for a price of $9.99 USD. It will be available for PC through Valve Corporation’s Steam platform. This was made possible after it was approved through Steam Greenlight, by its gaming community. An Alpha build demo is available through Steam, for impatiently interested PC parties.

Runers has players exploring a magic-laced dungeon, gathering runes and mastering spells along the way. Hordes of ferocious enemies, as well as ruthless bosses, will try to defeat the player before they can reach the final boss to complete their quest. Challenges and achievements are provided. Spellcasters earn new abilities upon their completion.

The protagonist’s life is given great weight in Runers. If a player dies, the play-through ends. This means the game must be completed all the way from the journey’s very start, with the player fully intact. Players will have to truly master the game and improve their strategies to see this game to succession.

Co-founder of Let’s Get Kraken, Mark Bergerson, explained the aims of development for Runers in a press release:

We here at LGK Games are excited to partner with Mastertronic in bringing Runers to the world. Our main focus during development was customization and replayability. We made a game that we love to play and we want people to get that itch and experience the different ways of playing. Runers is an easy game to pick up and play, but difficult to master. The power is in the player’s hands and the challenge lies in seeing how far you can go. We are looking forward to seeing how the public reacts.

A new gameplay trailer was released for the rouge-like shooter, found below. More information can be found on the game’s Steam page, or the official website.
