‘Run Like Hell!’ Scrambling to PS Vita on September 16

PlayStation Vita owners might want to check out Run Like Hell!, a side scrolling platformer coming to the handheld platform on September 17 that revolves entirely around the idea of escaping from a pack of hungry cannibals.

The game is not to be confused with Run Like HellHunt or Be Hunted, a 2002 PlayStation 2 and Xbox third person shooter that received middling reviews. This Run Like Hell!, developed by Polish developer Mass Creation, whose credits include Draw Slasher and Alicia Darkstone: The Mysterious Abduction, casts players as Nathan Drake-lookalike treasure hunter who somehow manages to annoy a group of bloodthirsty cannibals.

Gameplay, as mentioned earlier, involves fleeing from said cannibals across a 2D plane, with terrain and obstacles that players can jump, slide and climb over in parkour fashion.

In a nice twist, levels are procedurally generated, so no two playthroughs are exactly alike. There are various different locales to escape from such as villages, forests, caverns and the beach, all of which contain powerups that boost one’s speed and slow down the pursuing man-eaters.

Three gameplay modes are available: story mode, arcade, which allows players to engage in the hellish task of fleeing from the cannibals for as long as they can stomach, and multiplayer, which allows players to compete to see who is the fastest of all. Multiplayer also allows for the selection of one of twelve different characters.

Extra bonuses are also available to more persistent players, such as the ability to play as a ninja or zombie, as well as a bonus level in which the cannibals are replaced by a monstrous yeti.

The announcement has received a lukewarm reception from Vita owners. The official trailer has amassed 338 likes and 251 dislikes, with many complaining that RLH looks more like a game suitable for mobile phones than the vastly more sophisticated Vita.

Run Like Hell! will be available on the PlayStation Store come September 16.
