Rumor: Ubisoft is Developing an Additional Far Cry Title Alongside Far Cry 7

It looks like Ubisoft is readying a lot more than just the next entry in their long running Far Cry franchise. According to a report from Inside Gaming, the company is developing not one, but two new iterations for the series. The first is the obvious one, Far Cry 7, and the second is a multiplayer game which is known internally as “Project Maverick.” According to Inside Gaming’s sources, this new project is a extraction shooter and will take place in a fictional location called Alashnica, which is going to be based off of the real life Alaska.

The source also states that Project Maverick will also contain Perma Death, meaning that players will only have one life to work with. Once their character dies, they’ll lose all of their current items and levels that they have accumulated, making this a unique multiplayer rogue-like title. However, those who try again with a new character can re-obtain their last characters items in an area called the “Hideout,” which will also serve as a hub for players to interact and plan out moves.

As for Far Cry 7, no specific information about the title was revealed by Inside Gaming’s sources, but they did mention that Ubisoft is currently planning on releasing this Project Maverick before the mainline entry. Therefore, it’s entirely possible that we’ll have an official reveal for the latter sometime this year, with a launch date to come later, possibly sometime in 2024. While it’s possible that Far Cry 7 could be announced at the same time, the likelihood is fairly slim. We’re more than likely not going to see any official reveal in that regard for a good while. Either way, it appears that Ubisoft has something for us in the very near future.
