We’re just days away until we can finally get our hands on the long-awaited Street Fighter 6. The title is already getting rave reviews, and is on track to becoming one of, if not the best fighting game of 2023. Despite all of this excellent news, we’re just now finding out that one of the biggest contributors to not just Street Fighter 6, but also Capcom, in general, may have departed the company. Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, who is well known for his work as a producer on the Mega Man franchise, recently updated his Twitter profile which now states he has “graduated from Capcom.”
The change on Tsuchiya’s profile was noted by several accounts on Twitter, including the one noted above. It was also observed by one of the biggest Mega Man fan sites, Rockman-corner, who published an entire piece on the change, stating that he has indeed departed the company. It’s important to note that none of this has been officially confirmed by Tsuchiya, anyone working on Mega Man or Street Fighter, or by anyone else at Capcom. However, the wording on the profile change does strongly indicate that Tsuchiya has indeed moved on from his post at Capcom, albeit in a fairly cryptic manner.
If this does indeed turn out to be true, then it brings to an end one of Capcom’s longest-tenured developers. Tsuchiya’s career at the company began way back in the early 1990’s working as a programmer on Mega Man 7 and then on Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors Dreams. After Mega Man creator and main producer Keiji Inafune departed in 2010, Tsuchiya took over as the lead on all future projects. As we already mentioned, Tsuchiya was also one of the main producers for Street Fighter 6, and due to the timing of the profile change and the impending release of the game, it’s possible that once his duties for the project were concluded, he was set to depart the company. Hopefully, Tsuchiya or Capcom give us some insight on his potential departure very soon.
