It looks like Capcom’s most successful franchise might have another entry in the foreseeable future. According to a well known horror gaming leaker Dusk Golem, the company is already readying up for the next Resident Evil. When asked about this in the Snitchers Discord server, Golem replied “2025, I’ll say that much, though [it will] probably be announced next year.” Golem apparently made similar remarks way back in 2021, saying at the time that the project has been in development “since 2018” when Resident Evil Village wasn’t even out yet.
In addition, Golem also revealed that Capcom plans to reveal another new title at the end of this year for a Fall 2024 release. This leak is already heavily rumored to be the next entry in the Monster Hunter series, although Capcom may also reveal this during the Tokyo Game Show in September. However, should Golem’s other tidbit of information come to fruition, then we’re likely waiting until The Game Awards 2023 to see an official reveal. The latter takes place in December, right where the the claim is made.
As for Resident Evil 9, Capcom has yet to make any official mention of its existence, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been in the works all of this time. If anything, Capcom has shown that they’re amazing at planning ahead and ensuring that their IP’s get plenty of polish before they’re unleashed to the public. This was made evident with the two most recent entries in the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil Village was well received and become one of the highest selling titles of 2021. Meanwhile in 2023, the remake of Resident Evil 4 has become critical darling, garnering many Game of the Year nods right off the bat, and was able to sell more than three million copies in less than two days.
