Rocksteady Releases Major Updates on Upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in Sony’s State of Play

In PlayStation’s February 2023 State of Play, they released gameplay footage and information on the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is set to release on May 26, 2023. These trailers showed gameplay of four playable characters, each with their own unique kits and playstyles, including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark and Captain Boomerang. In addition to these characters being shown, teasers of the different game mechanics, cosmetics, and weapons were shown in the behind the scenes portion of the trailer, seemingly displaying quite a bit of depth and versatility in the way players can approach the game.

The gameplay can be played either solo or with up to four players in a co-op, where everyone will be moving around the city killing Brainiac’s minions with their own varied builds and abilities.

As far as the story is concerned, Brainiac has invaded Metropolis and taken over the minds of most of the Justice League. The player must use the collection of villains to defeat Brainiac’s minions and kill all of the Justice League in order to stop Brainiac’s conquest.

Many familiar characters will appear in the game as both allies and enemies. Many characters from the Justice League act as villains that the main characters must defeat, however beyond them there are also characters such as Lex Luthor, Penguin, Hack, Toy Man and Gizmo, the latter four of which provide weapons, support and upgrades to playable characters.

Every character has access to six types of guns: shotguns, miniguns, pistols, assault rifles, SMGs and sniper rifles. These guns all have various branches of upgrading and customization that are going to be customizable the further into the game the player gets. Weapon manufacturers also add more depth to each of the types of guns as the game progresses, adding models such as Armor Tech weapons and Lex Corp weapons. There will also be themed gear sets that give bonuses based on the type of theme for the weapon. The trailer used the Bane set as the example, buffing the player in ways that would resemble characteristics from the Batman villain.

Each character in the game also has a unique playstyle that works with their styles of movement to vary the fighting that will take place. Harley Quinn is acrobatic and can travel across Metropolis by swinging around in a similar fashion to Spiderman with her grappling hook. Deadshot uses a jetpack for aerial mobility, which he can use while shooting the variety of guns that fit in line with his character. King Shark is a tank that can run in and fight melee battles with the enemies, traversing the city with jumps that span large areas, crashing down to deal damage to enemies. Finally, Captain Boomerang has speed force gauntlets, which he can use to move quickly in short bursts in tandem with when he throws his boomerang.

Additionally, each character will have a “gear score,” which acts as a power level in the game. As characters unlock gear, their gear score goes up. The higher their gear score, the more access they get to more difficult levels and an increased variety in how to build the character. Every weapon in the game is upgradable, so as players level up, the options expand exponentially as they choose to customize their builds as they see fit.

Furthermore, there will be cosmetics that will be released through a battle pass system for those who want to further customize their characters’ appearances.

Finally, the game will be adding more content beyond what is initially released, so players can look forward to the upcoming downloadable content which will include new characters, new weapons and new missions.

Everything presented here and more will be available on May 26, 2023, so for fans of the Batman: Arkham franchise, it will be exciting to continue the storyline, with a villainous twist.
