With last week’s update on the characters of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games is pushing forward with its marketing campaign of its flagship title. This week, as the release date for the game is just a month away, the company is ramping up the hype train even further as it finally reveals detailed information on some of the gorgeous and fleshed out settings that players will get to explore in the game.
The main website update describes the world in general:
“Discover some of the towns dotted across the vast and varied landscape of Red Dead Redemption 2; from the forests of West Elizabeth to the mountains of Ambarino to the plains of New Hanover to the swamps of Lemoyne.”
Rockstar has once again gone above and beyond in crafting a living, breathing open world that gushes with vibrancy and diversity of settings. Each frontier, city, and town seems like its own character, with its own unique quirks and specialties. Take the mining town of Annesburg in New Hanover, described as a harsh mining town where life is difficult despite its importance as a source of coal. The portrayal of the town contrasts starkly with Saint Denis, a port city that represents the gateway to North America; the bustling trade hotspot attracts a huge diversity of different people.
The huge variety in drastically different natural environments is astounding as well. The lower hills and plains of the Heartlands are like a whole different world from the remote swamps of Bayou Nwa. The rocky and densely forested slopes of Big Valley clash with the sheer height of Mt. Hagen, towering amongst the foreboding snowy peaks of the Grizzlies of Ambarino.
The open world has played a central role in Rockstar Games since the very beginning, and the Red Dead series is no exception. From the looks of it, Rockstar has turned up the quality since the previous title, offering even more locations and frontiers to push the limits of what true open world can be. Not to mention, the spectacular graphics that underscore the prowess of the engine and the hard work of the developers. As the release date for the game draws closer, players can expect increased frequency in these information updates, as it will be of the most highly anticipated games this holiday season.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch October 26, 2018 for the Xbox One and PS4.
