Rocksmith Coming to iOS, Available Now in Canada

Ubisoft has announced that Rocksmith, the guitar-learning game/instructional software, will be coming to iOS for mobile devices.

In a post on the UbiBlog, community developer Dan Amrich shares that the very popular Rocksmith software will finally be making the move to mobile devices, a move that has apparently been heavily requested for a long time now.  While the mobile version of Rocksmith is not entirely polished and therefore not yet available worldwide, Ubisoft has initiated a “soft launch” of the software, making it available only in Canada starting today, as a means of testing.  The app will be available on iPad, with players able to either connect an electric guitar or bass through an adapter cable plugged directly into the device, or on an acoustic instrument using the iPad’s built in microphone.

Rocksmith for iOS is a free download for anyone in Canada, and features many of the features and tools that users of the PC and console versions of the game will find familiar, such as interactive video lessons and dynamic difficulty settings to tailor the game experience to individual players’ skill levels, among others.  Of special note is the Riff Repeater, the praised feature from the original Rocksmith that lets players pinpoint exact sections of songs to work on, letting them repeat certain phrases and slow down the song’s tempo to really hone in on problem areas.  Riff Repeater will be fully controllable through the iPad’s touchscreen, and will be available along with the rest of the Rocksmith tools for an unlimited time with no subscriptions or fees.

The iOS version of Rocksmith will come with 4 songs included, and 20 more available for purchase at launch.  Like the PC and console versions of the game, new songs will become available for purchase on the iOS version each new week: this week adds a new bundle of songs from the Grateful Dead.

Rocksmith for iOS is slated to be released worldwide in the future, at a yet undetermined time.
