Rocket League’s Second Championship Season Is Now Open For Registration

Today officially marks the first day to register for Rocket League’s Second Championship Season. The big surprise this year happens to be in the form of the payout for the winning team; $250,000. This new prize is three times that of last years mere $75,000.

Season 1 brought in 20,000 competitors on 6,100 different teams and Psyonix believes that they will get even more action this time around. According to Twitch, last years competition was watched by 2.3 million people for individual matches with 1 million alone watching the Finals.

According to the blog, season 2 will be stretched out over three months and happen in a whole new format. Beginning today, teams of three may begin signing up until 11:59pm PST on September 7th. Soon after on September 10th, the championship will officially begin. Psyonix Vice President Jeremy Dunham had this to say about the upcoming season,

We learned a lot from Season 1 and so did our players, and we can’t wait to apply that knowledge to the next competition. Our newer, more simplified format and bigger prize pools are a reflection of what our viewers, pros, and community have been asking for, and we’re incredibly proud to give it to them.

The top four teams from each region will be invited to the final international event. On Rocket League’s website they give a full breakdown of how the tier system will work. Matches will not be played on Xbox One, competitors will only be able to compete on a PC or Playstation 4.
