The popular multiplayer vehicle soccer game, Rocket League, is coming to mobile sometime this year. The developer, Psyonix, and Epic Games announced earlier today that the mobile version will be standalone version called Rocket League Sideswipe and will be free-to-play, similar to the original Rocket League.
For those familiar with Rocket League, Rocket League Sideswipe will be very similar. There will be the option to play in online multiplayer matches as well as in a local co-op with friends. However, the mobile game will be a bit smaller; it will have 1v1 and 2v2 matches that only last a couple of minutes each, making this version more fast-paced. There will be slightly different, intuitive controls that have been optimized for mobile devices as well as a fixed camera angle that is horizontal rather than fully 3D.
Rocket League Sideswipe is intended to be easy to pick up for newcomers and Rocket League veterans alike. But, for those who want to compete in ranked matches, do not worry, Psyonix announced that this will be included as well as complex car customization similar to what is already in place in Rocket League.
Psyonix is starting regional alpha testing in Australia and New Zealand today on Android devices via the Google Play store and hopes to expand testing to other regions in the coming months. Rocket League Sideswipe will be coming to iOS and Android devices hopefully sometime during 2021. Until then Rocket League is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac for free to play in the meantime.
