Rock Band 4 Coming to Next Gen Consoles this Year

It’s been well over four years since the popular music video game series Rock Band hit consoles with their last installment Rock Band 3. Since then fans have eagerly been awaiting on if and when the next game will be released. Now the wait is finally over since Harmonix announced today, on their official website, that Rock Band 4 is currently in the works and scheduled for release later this year.

Harmonix is teaming up with interactive entertainment producer Mad Catz, who is famous for producing a number of devices for Nintendo, PlayStation, and more recently Xbox. The new game will be released on next gen consoles with over 2000 songs released since 2007 and 500 tracks from some of rocks most influential artists. Previously purchased tracks from last gen consoles will be carried over at no additional cost with a full catalog containing hundreds of tracks available at launch.

With Rock Band 4, we’re doubling down on the energy and excitement of playing music live with your friends,” says Harmonix Chief Executive Officer Steve Janiak. “Focusing on the core experience that our fans have told us they love allows us to evolve established gameplay in meaningful ways that we can’t wait to share with everyone later this year.

In celebration of the long awaited announcement, Rock Band 3 owners can download, “I Still Believe” by UK artist Frank Turner free of charge on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Fans attending PAX East from March 6th to March 8th can pre-order a Penny-Arcade themed guitar at Harmonix’s Booth #4224. Rock Band was a personal favorite of mine when it first came out seven years ago and offered hours upon hours of entertainment. Though information is relatively scarce at the moment, Harmonix stated that more details will be revealed this upcoming May.
