River City Girls 0 Is On Its Way To Modern Consoles

The incentive to keep classic video game titles alive has grown spectacularly in 2022 alone, and thanks to Limited Run Games’s game engineers, more older titles will be playable on modern consoles. Limited Run Games announced their progress made on their Carbon Engine in a recent news letter in addition to welcoming five retro titles into its growing library. While there is no confirmed release date, River City Girls 0 and other old classics are coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

River City Girls 0 follows the story of hot-blooded heroes Join Kunio, Riki, Misako, and Kyoko as they attempt to clear their names of a heinous crime with bone-crunching, beat-’em-up action. Experience the 1994 classic that inspired the successful River City Girls 1 and 2 thanks to Limited Run Game’s Carbon Engine.

According to Limited Run Games, Carbon Engine “is a multi-platform development tool that helps different emulators interface with modern hardware.” The Carbon Engine is used mainly for optimizing retro games for modern gamers, by focusing on debugging rather than altering the game. Retro games running in the Carbon Engine will play just like they did on their initial release, the only difference being the controller.  Limited Run Games hopes to create more accessibility to rare retro titles like River City Girls Zero. The Carbon Engine is one of the latest developments in the video game preservationist scene. Hopefully as the technology progresses Limited Run Game’s library of retro titles will grow to give new and old players a chance to revisit classics that defined the video game community.

Currently, the Carbon Engine supports retro titles from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)/Famicom, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)/Super Famicom, Genesis/Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance, Game Gear, Master System, Sega CD/Mega CD, PlayStation.
