Games that provide a challenge for players are becoming ever more popular as failure forces them to overcome obstacles that may seem impossible at first glance. Risk of Rain 2 has joined this genre of challenging games and has received “overwhelmingly positive” reviews on Steam since it’s early access release. As a result, the game has now dropped on current-gen consoles without notice giving Switch, PS4, and Xbox One owners a chance to engage in the challenge Risk of Rain 2 provides alone or with friends online.
Risk of Rain 2’s trailer does a very good job describing that failure is normal in the game. You will start off as a meager astronaut arriving on a violent planet with little to defend yourself resulting in death on numerous occasions. Even so, as you engage enemy creatures and discover a wide variety of loot, you will become stronger and also learn the tricks your enemies have at their disposal. If adventuring on your own seems to be too much of a challenge, having a few friends to watch your back can make the experience a little easier but don’t expect a walk in the park.
As one of a cast of sci-fi survivors, drop onto a beautiful but foreboding planet and blast your way to an escape. Enemies, loot, and mysteries abound in this multiplayer roguelike that’s absolutely stuffed to the seams with places to see, items to unlock, and baddies to blow up. Grab some friends in four player online co-op, stack up some items, and try to survive the wildlife.
It was announced back in June that Risk of Rain 2 would be released on the Switch sometime in the Summer. What was not clear was that the game would also release on PS4 and Xbox One at the same time. The console versions include all the available patches including Scorched Acres stage, Survivor Rex, and The Grovetender boss as well as items and equipment. Risk of Rain 2 has a strong player base since its release on Steam and with the expansion to consoles, it is likely to increase significantly. The console port is now available for download for $30 now on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
