It looks like we’re going to find out more about the upcoming Yakuza 8 sooner than we thought. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, also known as RGG Studio, and Sega have announced a special event dubbed RGG Summit, which will take place on Wednesday, September 14 at 3:00 PM PST. The Summit will be streamed on Sega’s official Twitch channel and is expected to showcase the aforementioned Yakuza 8. This will more than likely give us a much more detailed glimpse of what the game will be about and some of the featured mechanics.
RGG Studio first confirmed that they were working on a brand new Yakuza entry back in November 2021. This will also be the first entry without series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi at the head who has since departed to form his own studio under NetEase. We actually got very tiny glimpse of Yakuza 8 back in July when YouTuber and MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura gave us a brief behind the scenes video at RGG Studio in Japan. This is where we saw current protagonist Ichiban Kasuga with his hair tied back rather than having his trademark wild hair style from his first outing.
While Yakuza 8 will more than likely be the main attraction, it’s possible that RGG Studio has some other things to show us as well. They could unveil another entry in the Judgement franchise, which in an of itself is a spin off of the main Yakuza series. It’s also possible that they have something brand new on the horizon and will also reveal it during this event. Either way, RGG has our attention, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
RGG Summit 2022 will take place on Wednesday, September 14 at 3:00 PM PST and will be livestreamed on Sega’s official Twitch channel.
